Air passenger numbers are expected to double by 2041. However, building ever larger airports will be difficult. The industry needs to implement automation, digitalization, and efficient processes to handle this growth. IATA’s One ID initiative aims to streamline passenger journey with advance sharing of information and a contactless process at the airport based on biometric-enabled identification. By obtaining all necessary authorizations and demonstrating admissibility to travel prior to departure, passengers will be ‘Ready to Fly’ before they arrive at the airport. Travel experience can be further enhanced through digital identity technology, allowing passengers to move through airport touchpoints swiftly without showing physical documents.

Non-Aeronautical Revenue Forum

Against a backdrop of global instability and economic slowdown, weakened consumer confidence has become a universal phenomenon worldwide. Despite rapid passenger recovery and robust growth in traffic volumes, the majority of airports are failing to see a corresponding rebound in traveler spending. This starkly reveals that current retail and service offerings at most airports no longer resonate with modern travelers.

• CHEN Yao, Director of the Office of the Leading Group for Investment Promotion and Financing, China West Airport Group and Chairwoman, China West Airport Group (Xi’an) Business Development Co., Ltd.

• Jacob Zhu, Founder and CEO of AIRPO, and Editor-in-Chief of Airport Business Review

Facing an entirely new spending cycle, the morning panel will explore two critical questions:

1)What do today’s—and tomorrow’s—travelers truly expect during their journeys?

2)What experiential ecosystem must airports create to meet evolving consumer demands?

For the afternoon panel, explore innovative retail concepts and brand partnerships that are revolutionizing airport commercial spaces and creating compelling reasons for travelers to arrive earlier and spend more. Our distinguished panel will analyze successful case studies of airports that have reimagined traditional concessions into immersive retail destinations, pop-up experiences, and localized showcases that capture passenger attention and boost non-aeronautical revenue. Learn how to craft unique consumption scenarios that transform your terminals into destinations themselves, driving engagement with both travelers and the surrounding community.
